About the Role
An established engineering organisation specialising in the design and manufacture of pressure vessels, pipework, and heat exchangers is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team.
This role focuses on the design and development of pressure equipment and associated fabrication tooling, ensuring all work meets relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements. It’s an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys working on complex, high-integrity projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop pressure vessels, pipework, and heat exchangers in line with ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, and BS EN 12952
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet client specifications
* Produce detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation
* Carry out design calculations and simulations to ensure performance and structural integrity
* Perform stress analysis and support material selection for pressure equipment
* Review and improve existing designs to enhance efficiency, cost, and manufacturability
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
* Maintain accurate design records and documentation
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* Proven experience designing pressure vessels, pipework, and heat exchangers
* Strong knowledge of ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, and BS EN 12952
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
* Experience with stress analysis and material selection
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Effective communication and teamwork abilities
* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Additional Requirement:
Due to the nature of the work and UK Government security clearance requirements, this role is open to British eligible for security vetting. Successful applicants will be required to undergo clearance in line with UKSV procedures.
Desirable Skills
* Experience in power , oil & gas, chemical, or energy sectors
* Familiarity with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software
* Chartered status, or working towards chartership, with a recognised engineering body (e.g. IMechE or IED)
