Job Description
Mechanical Design Engineer - Water (AMP8)
London (Office & Site-Based)
£60,000 - £70,000 + Benefits + Training + Progression
Full-time
Permanent
Looking to step into a role where you can take ownership of full lifecycle mechanical design and progress towards Senior / Lead Engineer level?
This opportunity sits within a major UK water framework delivering AMP8 projects across treatment works, pumping stations, and wider infrastructure. You’ll be involved from early concept through to delivery, working across design, equipment selection, and construction support.
This is a role for someone who wants to move beyond pure design and gain exposure to how projects are actually delivered on site.
The Role:
Deliver mechanical design across water and wastewater infrastructure projects from concept through to completion
Contribute to P&IDs, equipment selection, and pump / pipeline sizing (engineering calculations)
Liaise with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to support procurement and technical delivery
Work closely with site teams to resolve technical queries and ensure design intent is implemented
Support commissioning teams by troubleshooting design-related issues through to project handover
The Opportunity:
Clear progression route to Senior and Lead Mechanical Engineer
Exposure to the full project lifecycle, not just design
Work within a structured engineering team on long-term AMP8 programmes
Gain experience across both office-based design and site delivery environments
The Person:
Mechanical Engineer with experience in design and/or project engineering
Background in water, utilities, or process-led environments (energy, industrial, manufacturing also considered)
Strong understanding of pumps, pipework, valves, and hydraulic systems
Able to interpret and contribute to P&IDs and technical design documentation
Motivated to develop into a well-rounded engineer with long-term progression
If you’re looking for a role that offers real responsibility, technical development, and a clear route into senior engineering positions within a growing sector, this is an excellent opportunity to step forward in your career.
