Mechanical Design Lead – Data Centres

London (Managing sites in Nordics & Western Europe)


A genuinely interesting Mechanical Design Lead role where you will design authority across two live European data centre builds, with real exposure from concept through to delivery.


We’re partnering with a European, investor backed data centre operator delivering large scale infrastructure across the region, now looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Lead, based in their London office.


This is an opportunity to join a business with real momentum, combining strong private equity backing, a clear growth trajectory, and a portfolio of bankable, revenue generating projects.

Acting as the mechanical subject matter expert, you will take ownership of design across key European developments.


This role will take ownership of mechanical design across two live data centre developments spanning the Nordics and Western Europe.


The Role

This is a design led position with full lifecycle exposure, sitting at the intersection of engineering, design management and project delivery.


You will act as the mechanical design authority, leading solutions from early stage concept through to construction and commissioning, ensuring designs are technically robust, fully coordinated, and delivered as intended.


This is not a site delivery role, but it does require close engagement with contractors and delivery teams throughout the build.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design across complex data centre developments
  • Define cooling strategies and HVAC solutions for high-density environments
  • Manage and challenge external engineering consultancies
  • Drive design coordination across MEP, CSA and controls
  • Oversee design from concept through to IFC and delivery
  • Work closely with contractors to ensure design intent is maintained on site
  • Review RFIs, technical submissions and design changes
  • Support commissioning and handover phases


What We’re Looking For

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Chartered (CEng) or working towards
  • Strong background in mechanical design within data centres or mission-critical environments
  • Experience across both design and construction phases of projects
  • Background from:
  • Engineering consultancy, or
  • Client/operator environment with design ownership
  • Strong technical expertise in:
  • Cooling systems / HVAC
  • Heat rejection and energy optimisation


You should be comfortable operating as a technical authority, able to influence consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.
