Mechanical Engineer - Plant Room Design
Location: Worcester, England
Contract Type: Permanent or Fixed-Term Contract (6 months)
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join an engineering team at a leading HVAC and fluid-flow technology manufacturer. This role combines mechanical system design with manufacturing support, working on modular plant room solutions and cooling systems primarily for data centres and critical infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Deliverables:
- Production of P&IDs, schematics, block diagrams, and valve schedules for modular plant room builds
- Create manufacturing drawings and technical documentation using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor)
- Check and submit client submittals, ensuring BOM accuracy
- Manage engineering design drawing revision control
- Work with customers to update drawings and technical specifications
- Develop New Product Introduction (NPI) methodologies to support design-to-production transitions
- Participate in DFMA workshops to support value engineering and product standardization
Production & Manufacturing Support:
- Provide technical support to production teams during build execution
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and develop solutions
- Manage Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process and implement corrective actions
- Maintain BOM structures and routing systems within PLM/PDM/ERP platforms
- Oversee engineering change control processes
- Ensure full traceability of all process modifications and design changes
Requirements:
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent with relevant experience
- Substantial experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or mechanical design within HVAC, process plant, capital equipment, or building services sectors
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
- Experience with P&ID creation, schematics, and technical drawings
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including fabrication, welding, and modular build environments
- Understanding of BOM structures and engineering change control
Desirable:
- Working experience with PLM, PDM, or ERP systems
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001)
- Experience with structured problem-solving techniques (8D)
- Familiarity with standards such as EN BS 1090
