Mechanical Fitter
We are currently recruiting an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our engineering team based in Barton‑under‑Needwood. This is an opportunity to work on complex, heavy mechanical systems.
The Role:
As a Fitter, you will be responsible for the stripping, rebuilding, and overhaul of heavy mechanical assemblies used within the rail industry. The role requires a hands-on, methodical approach with a strong focus on quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Strip down, inspect, and survey mechanical units
Rebuild and assemble components to engineering specifications
Working on transmission and gear boxes
Overhaul and test mechanical systems including:
Fluid couplings
Rail transmissions
Torque-limiting couplings
Identify wear, faults, and required repairs
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales
Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to health & safety procedures
Working Hours:
40 hours per week
Monday – Thursday: 7:00am – 4:00pm
Friday: 7:00am – 1:00pm
Pay Rates:
£17.00 PAYE per hour for the first 12 weeks
£18.79 PAYE per hour from week 13 onwards

About You:
Time-served Mechanical Fitter or equivalent experience
Confident working on heavy mechanical assemblies
Experience in rail, Plant, marine, power, or similar heavy engineering sectors
Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude
