I’m currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business operating within the power distribution or switchgear. Due to continued growth and increased project demand, they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join their skilled production team.
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the mechanical assembly, installation and fitting of components used within power distribution equipment and related systems. You will work from engineering drawings and technical specifications to ensure all assemblies meet strict quality and safety standards.
The role:
Mechanical assembly of switchgear panels, busbar systems, enclosures and associated components
Installation and alignment of mechanical frameworks and structures
Working from engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation
Drilling, tapping, cutting and general fabrication work
Assembly of substation or power distribution equipment
Supporting electrical fitters where required during build processes
Conducting quality checks to ensure compliance with specifications
Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
Working to strict health and safety regulations
The ideal candidate
Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter within power distribution, switchgear manufacturing, substations, or similar heavy industrial environments
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment
Strong understanding of mechanical assembly techniques
Knowledge of health & safety standards within industrial settings
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with HV/LV switchgear or busbar systems
Background in panel building or substation assembly
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
IPAF, CSCS or relevant site qualifications
