Salary: We are offering a salary of £28,842 based on a 36 hour per week contract.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent.

The role:

At DB Cargo UK, we're currently recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter to join our Wagons team at our Stoke depot.

This is a hands-on mechanical role working on the maintenance, repair and overhaul of freight wagons, ensuring they remain safe and operational for use across the rail network.

The Wagons team work on a wide variety of rolling stock, meaning no two days are the same, with tasks ranging from routine inspections to mechanical repairs and component replacements.

What will you be doing?

Carry out maintenance, overhaul and refurbishment work on freight wagons.
Perform fault finding and rectification work.
Carry out damage repairs, modifications and work arising from inspections.
Work underneath wagons and bogies to carry out inspections and repairs.
Connect wagons to wheelsets through the bogie assembly using mechanical pins.
Carry out brake testing, grinding and fabrication work where required.
Complete all relevant documentation and work orders for maintenance activities.
Communicate progress and any stoppages to the Field Maintenance Coordinator.
Ensure correct stock levels and storage of parts.Working Environment:

This is a busy maintenance environment, where work often takes place underneath wagons and around heavy mechanical equipment.

The role can be physically demanding, requiring the use of hand tools and mechanical equipment, and occasionally working in tighter spaces beneath rolling stock.

Shift Pattern:

The role begins with a training period of approximately 12 weeks, depending on individual progress.

This role operates on a day shift pattern:

Monday - Thursday

07:30 - 16:30

What are we looking for?

We're looking for candidates with a strong mechanical mindset and practical hands-on experience.
Ideal candidates may have experience in:

Mechanical maintenance
Assembly environments
Using hand tools and air tools
Fabrication or grinding
Brake testing or mechanical repair work
Rail experience is not essential, but candidates must be comfortable working in a safety critical mechanical workshop environment.Most importantly, we are looking for people who are:
