Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to carry out maintenance, repair, and overhaul work on freight wagons. The role involves detailed mechanical inspection, component replacement, and ensuring all wagons meet safety, quality, and operational standards.
Location:
Doncaster (first 6 months while training) Then Barton-under-Needwood / Burton area Mileage paid: 30p per mile (claimable during training period) 6‑month contract Hours of Work:
Monday to Thursday 9¼ hours per day 37 hours per week Pay Rates:
Umbrella rate: £25.62 per hour Qualifications:
Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline required for the skilled rate
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and overhaul of freight wagons Inspect, repair, and replace components including brakes, suspension, wheelsets, couplings, and underframe parts Carry out full mechanical repairs to a high standard Replace worn components such as brake blocks, bearings, seals, and pipework Conduct brake tests and functional checks Mechanical fitter on engineering components Read and interpret engineering drawings and maintenance documentation Accurately complete job cards and maintenance records Work in compliance with site procedures, safety standards, and industry regulations
