Mechanical Fitter

Dursley Workshop-based - Day shift, MondayFriday Full time, permanent - £30,000 to £35,000 DOE + benefits

Due to continued growth, our client, a specialist municipal fleet engineering business is hiring a Mechanical Fitter / Vehicle Fitter to support vehicle refurbishment, planned maintenance and reactive repairs across specialist vehicles and associated body equipment. Youll work as part of a skilled engineering team to strip, inspect, repair and rebuild mechanical systems to a high standard with quality, reliability and safety at the core.

Key responsibilities

Mechanical fitting/repair on heavy vehicles and body equipment in a workshop environment

Strip and rebuild mechanical assemblies; replace worn/damaged components

Work on hydraulic and pneumatic systems (hoses, pipework, valves, cylinders, leak rectification)

Diagnose mechanical faults, carry out repairs, and verify fixes through testing/functional checks

Read and interpret engineering/manufacturing drawings and follow job packs accurately

Maintain high standards of housekeeping/5S and comply with all H&S procedures

The person

Strong mechanical background (vehicle/HGV/plant/agri/heavy engineering ideal)

Confident with hydraulics and pneumatics and general mechanical diagnostics

Able to work from engineering drawings/job packs

Strong tool skills, good attention to detail, and pride in workmanship

Desirable

NVQ Level 3 / C&G or equivalent mechanical qualification

Fabrication exposure (helpful)

Driving licence (HGV licence advantageous but not essential)
