Job Description

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer\n\nLocation: Birmingham\n\nHours: Monday-Friday, shifts between 07:00-19:00 (8am-4pm or 11am-7pm)\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe're looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy facilities engineering team responsible for maintaining a large, complex estate. You'll be delivering planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across a range of buildings, ensuring systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.\n\nThis role is ideal for someone who thrives in a technically varied environment and enjoys working independently while contributing to a wider engineering team.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nCarry out planned preventative maintenance, testing, and reactive repairs on mechanical systems and plant.\n\nDiagnose and repair faults on equipment including AHUs, FCUs, boilers, calorifiers, and general plantroom assets.\n\nWork from technical drawings, specifications, and instructions without supervision.\n\nMaintain plant rooms, workshops, and working environments to a high standard.\n\nRecord all work accurately using CAFM systems (e.g., Maximo or similar).\n\nSupport the development of safe systems of work and comply with all relevant regulations, including HTMs, Health & Safety legislation, and internal procedures.\n\nWork safely at height using MEWPs, scaffolding, ladders, and other access equipment (training provided).\n\nRespond to instructions via radio/PDA and adapt to changing priorities throughout the day.\n\nProvide technical support to colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement across the engineering team.\n\nUndertake training to work towards AP/CP responsibilities in areas such as medical gases, pressure systems, water, or ventilation.\n\nWhat You'll Bring\n\nCity & Guilds (or equivalent) Mechanical Engineering qualifications.\n\nCompleted indentured apprenticeship or equivalent training.\n\nStrong understanding of mechanical building services systems and plant.\n\nExperience in a healthcare or PFI environment is beneficial but not essential.\n\nAbility to work independently, interpret technical information, and solve problems effectively.\n\nA proactive, open‑minded approach to learning new skills and supporting team performance.\n\nStrong commitment to safe working practices and compliance.\n\nWhat's on Offer\n\nA stable, long‑term role within a large, multi‑disciplinary engineering team.\n\nOngoing training and development, including opportunities to gain AP/CP responsibilities.\n\nA varied and technically interesting environment with real scope to grow your skills.\n\nSupportive team culture focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.\n\nBlue Arrow is proud to be a Confident Employer and is committed to helping find great work opportunities for great people
