About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at our Appley Bridge site. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, shows initiative, and enjoys working as part of a supportive, experienced engineering team.

You'll play a key role in maintaining and improving plant reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting safe, efficient production operations.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will:

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment
Diagnose mechanical faults and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime
Conduct routine inspections and servicing of plant machinery
Work closely with production teams to improve equipment reliability and productivity
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, company policies, and safe systems of work
Identify and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities
Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment in line with engineering drawings
Strip, inspect, repair, and rebuild mechanical assemblies including:
Gearboxes
Pumps
Motors
Conveyors
Bearings and shafts
Liaise with external contractors when required
Maintain high housekeeping standardsWhat We're Looking For

You'll ideally have:

Proven experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment
Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
A recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
Experience working with LOTO, permits, RAMS, and risk assessments
A flexible and adaptable approach to changing production demands
Strong attention to detail and quality of work
Good communication and teamwork skills
Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and respond to callouts when requiredWhat You Can Expect
