About the Role
We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at our Appley Bridge site. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, shows initiative, and enjoys working as part of a supportive, experienced engineering team.
You'll play a key role in maintaining and improving plant reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting safe, efficient production operations.

Key Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment
- Diagnose mechanical faults and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime
- Conduct routine inspections and servicing of plant machinery
- Work closely with production teams to improve equipment reliability and productivity
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, company policies, and safe systems of work
- Identify and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment in line with engineering drawings
- Strip, inspect, repair, and rebuild mechanical assemblies including:
- Gearboxes
- Pumps
- Motors
- Conveyors
- Bearings and shafts
- Liaise with external contractors when required
- Maintain high housekeeping standards
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally have:
- Proven experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
- A recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience working with LOTO, permits, RAMS, and risk assessments
- A flexible and adaptable approach to changing production demands
- Strong attention to detail and quality of work
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and respond to callouts when required
