Job Description
Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - Day Shift \n Location: Birmingham\n Salary: £45,000 – £48,000 per annum\n Hours: 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday\n Contract: Permanent | Full-Time\n About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of a market-leading heavy engineering manufacturer based in Birmingham. Due to continued investment and growth, our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their established maintenance team.\n This is a day-shift role with occasional 4 on / 4 off shift cover to support holidays and absence. The position offers long-term stability, exposure to large-scale industrial plant, and the opportunity to be involved in continuous improvement and capital engineering projects.\n Key Responsibilities\nCarry out hands-on mechanical maintenance across heavy industrial production lines and associated plant\nLead and support TPM and PPM activities to improve reliability and reduce downtime\nAct as the main maintenance point of contact for production and contractor coordination\nRespond to breakdowns with effective fault-finding and root cause analysis\nDrive equipment reliability improvements and optimisation initiatives\nWork closely with production and engineering teams across the site\nManage and maintain spare parts inventory\nSupport machinery upgrades, installations, and plant expansion projects\nProvide guidance and mentoring to apprentices and junior engineers\nEnsure strict adherence to Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and risk assessmentsCandidate Requirements\nMechanical Engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / BTEC – HNC advantageous)\nMinimum 5 years’ experience in a medium or heavy industrial maintenance environment\nStrong working knowledge of:\n\nHydraulics and pneumatics\nFluid power systems\nWelding and fabrication\nMachine shop practices\nConfident reading mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics\nExperience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting, or rolling equipment is highly desirable\nStrong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills\nAble to work independently and provide 4 on / 4 off shift cover when requiredWorking Pattern\nPrimary: Day Shift – Monday to Friday (7:00am – 3:30pm)\nFlexibility: Occasional 4 on / 4 off shift cover for holidays and absenceWhat’s on Offer\nCompetitive salary up to £48,000\nSecure, permanent position with a reputable manufacturer\nWell-supported engineering environment with long-term career prospects\nInvolvement in high-value engineering and continuous improvement projects Interested?\n Apply today or contact our recruitment team for a confidential discussion about this opportunity
