Job Description

Mechanical Project Engineer/ Senior Projects Engineer with rolling stock experience required to lead projects across passenger services for a growing rail service provider.\n\nSituation\n\nFord & Stanley are partnered with a rail service provider to recruit a Projects Engineer / Senior Projects Engineer to lead the delivery of engineering design, reengineering, and installation projects across their passenger rolling stock portfolio.\n\nWith a growing pipeline of modification and refurbishment programmes, this role will be central to ensuring technical excellence, customer satisfaction, and on-time delivery. You’ll manage a small team of design engineers, interface with clients and stakeholders, and support on-site installation teams to resolve design challenges. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of deliverables, apply engineering best practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the clients’ engineering services.\n\nOpportunity\n\nLead high-profile rolling stock projects across passenger and freight fleets\nCollaborate with customers, contractors, and internal teams to deliver innovative solutions\nInfluence design strategy and contribute to technical leadership within the business\nSupport First in Class installations and transition programmes to fleet-wide deployment\nJoin a growing engineering services team with strong leadership and a clear delivery focus\nWork on-site in Derby with opportunities for client visits and field support\nBe part of a business that values initiative, autonomy, and commercial awareness\nCandidate Specifications\n\nBackground in rolling stock engineering — interiors, mechanical, or electrical systems\nExperience managing design teams and delivering technical projects\nProficient in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent)\nStrong understanding of engineering change documentation and compliance standards\nDegree in engineering (mechanical or electrical) desired; Chartered status desirable.
