Mechanical Project Engineer

Location: Kettering, West Midlands

Employment Type: Full-time / Permanent

Salary: £55,000-£60,000 + 5k Car Allowance

Role Overview

The Mechanical Project Engineer will support the delivery of projects from a technical standpoint. Reporting to the Project Manager or Contracts Manager, this role requires a mix of office-based and site-based work depending on project needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of project designs, specifications, and requirements.
  • Prepare and manage technical submittals as directed by the Project or Contracts Manager.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Contracts Managers, Design Teams, and QS on project progress and reporting.
  • Ensure email communications include the project reference in the subject line.
  • Raise and track Requests for Information (RFIs) and maintain the RFI log.
  • Monitor orders of long-lead equipment to avoid delays.
  • Ensure site teams work from the latest design drawings.
  • Record as-built modifications and update drawings accordingly.
  • Supervise Sub-Contractor compliance and performance.
  • Participate in site meetings and provide technical input.
  • Assist the QS with variations, change management, and procurement support.
  • Manage relevant external communications with stakeholders.
  • Ensure all works comply with Building Regulations, industry standards, and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Follow all company EHSQ policies and procedures.
  • Compile Operation & Maintenance manuals and support commissioning and handover.
  • Maintain project documentation in the company’s document management system.
  • Perform any additional duties as required by the Project or Contracts Manager.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent trade background.
  • Strong understanding of tendering and project delivery processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and MS Project.
  • Flexible, willing to learn, and able to adapt to various project requirements.
