Role Overview – Lead Mechanical Technician We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Mechanical Technician (LMech) to oversee the safe and effective delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities across a critical environment. This includes supervising both internal technicians and subcontractors. This hands-on supervisory role requires participation in a shift rota and active involvement in day-to-day operations. The Lead Mechanical Technician will ensure technical excellence, safety compliance, and optimal team performance across all mechanical systems on site. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership - Act as deputy to the Technical Services Supervisor (TSS) when required. - Participate in emergency escalation protocols and provide out-of-hours technical support. - Ensure all team members and contractors adhere to safe systems of work, including RAMS, LOTO, and Permit to Work procedures. - Maintain required site certifications and act as an Authorised Person (AP) as appointed. - Lead by example in upholding technical standards, professionalism, and safety culture. Maintenance & Engineering - Oversee and perform routine and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems and critical infrastructure. - Diagnose and repair faults efficiently, escalating complex issues when necessary. - Coordinate task scheduling with the DigiHub/Helpdesk and liaise with end users for access and timing. - Ensure all maintenance works, including those performed by subcontractors, meet engineering standards and industry best practices. - Support small-scale project works and asset replacement tasks as directed. Team & Stakeholder Management - Allocate technician and subcontractor resources effectively to meet operational deadlines and service quality. - Promote a team culture focused on safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement. - Foster strong working relationships with clients, engineers, and external vendors. - Mentor and support the professional development of technicians and apprentices. Reporting & Compliance - Provide regular progress and issue reports to the TSS, highlighting resource needs or operational challenges. - Ensure all activities are logged accurately in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). - Adhere to all regulatory compliance and internal engineering standards. - Complete all assigned training requirements and maintain up-to-date technical competencies. Required Qualifications & Experience Education & Training - NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline. - Valid Authorised Person (AP) certification (desirable). Experience - Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience. - Previous work in a critical or high-reliability environment is highly desirable. Technical Skills - Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities. - Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering standards, and statutory regulations. IT & Systems - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. - Experience with CMMS platforms for task tracking and asset management.
