Job Description
This role is integral to managing and supervising marine projects, ensuring compliance with high standards and efficient completion of tasks.\n\nThe suitable candidate must have a background of working in the Portsmouth Dockyard and experience of working on Royal Navy vessels.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nSupervise and monitor employees' work, ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety procedures, and technical requirements in shiprepair, fabrication, mechanical fitting, and pipefitting works.\nQuote, plan, and manage shiprepair, marine, fabrication, and mechanical/pipefitting projects while controlling costs and achieving deliverables.\nEnsure staff compliance with company policies, including timekeeping, conduct, and technical training.\nMaintain high standards of housekeeping across workshops, stores, vessels, vehicles, and on-site locations.\nSupport management in scheduling maintenance and repairs of company machinery, pipework systems, and shiprepair equipment.\nWork independently to plan and prioritise workload within set timescales.\nEnsure compliance with internal and external emergency arrangements and enforce the correct use of required PPE.\nAssist in tracking and controlling tools and equipment to prevent loss or theft, reporting any incidents promptly.\nEnforce safety regulations, maintain accurate records, and support procurement processes.\nRemain available for emergency or responsive shiprepair works and undertake on-call duties as needed.\nComplete written reports on project progress, quality, and completion.\nAdvise management promptly of potential workforce dissatisfaction.\n\nJob Requirements:\n\nExperience in shiprepair with a mechanical/pipefitting background\nStrong verbal and written communication skills for effective liaison with staff, managers, and suppliers.\nWillingness and ability to travel for business needs, including shipyard and port facilities.\nEligibility for UK Security Clearance\nFull UK driving licence.\nProficient in interpreting shiprepair drawings, technical schematics, pipework diagrams, fabrication manuals, and associated specifications.\nProven experience supervising personnel and monitoring quality and productivity in shiprepair, fabrication, mechanical, and pipefitting disciplines.\nExcellent organisational and planning skills with a strong team player ethos and the ability to motivate staff.\n\nTerms:\n\n£32/h Umb co (PAYE also available)\n40 hour standard week but due to project demand you can expect to regularly work between 50-70 hours per week \nIf you are an experienced Mechanical Team Leader/Supervisor we would love to hear from you.
