Our client is a global Commodities Trading company based in London with offices in Geneva, Cape Town, Kenya, Zambia and Hong Kong . They are looking for a Metals Trade Operator to join their growing Operations Team, in London.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Coordinate bulk vessel shipments including booking vessels, appointing surveyors, issuing shipping instructions and arranging inspections, insurance and sample analysis
  • Monitor shipment schedules and documentation preparation, ensuring full compliance with contractual and LC requirements
  • Review laytime calculations against charter party terms and Statements of Facts, liaising with agents and counterparties to resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare, review and finalise contracts, addendums and amendments in line with agreed commercial terms, ensuring all pre-shipment conditions and contractual milestones are met
  • Maintain accurate position sheets, sales planning reports and trade lifecycle updates within internal systems
  • Coordinate issuance and amendment of Letters of Credit, reviewing drafts to ensure full alignment with contractual terms and proactively resolving discrepancies prior to issuance
  • Prepare, review and present compliant shipping and banking documentation, tracking and resolving any discrepancies to avoid settlement delays
  • Liaise with banks, customers and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth and timely payment
  • Identify and manage operational risks including documentation discrepancies, laytime exposure and contractual deviations
  • Support resolution of quality, quantity and commercial claims in coordination with Traders and counterparties
  • Allocate and approve invoices in line with internal controls and ensure accurate trade data integrity across internal systems
  • Work closely with Traders, Buyers, Chartering and Ship Operations teams to ensure aligned and efficient execution
  • Act as a key point of contact for international teams and external counterparties
  • Review documentation prepared by other team members to ensure compliance and contribute to continuous improvement of processes and reporting standards


WHAT OUR CLIENT WOULD LOVE TO SEE:


  • Minimum of 3-5 years Commodities Trading Operations experience, ideally with good experience working with suppliers and counterparts in South Africa
  • Someone who is a quick learner, self-motivated, takes initiative, works hard, can work in a changing, flexible environment that is highly pressured and entrepreneurial
  • A candidate who thinks outside the box and works hard at looking for solutions to a business problem with team members
  • The candidate should have a high level of attention to detail, should be organized and meticulous and a positive inquiring attitude
