An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Level 1 Network Engineer to join a fast-growing service provider delivering connectivity and managed network services to enterprise and business customers. The organisation is expanding its national full-fibre network infrastructure and investing heavily in next-generation network technologies, automation, and software-defined architecture.
You will join a customer-focused support team responsible for maintaining reliable network services while delivering excellent technical assistance to customers and partners.
The Role
As an L1 Network Engineer, you will act as a first point of contact for network-related support requests. The role focuses on monitoring infrastructure, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring incidents are resolved efficiently within defined service levels. You will also work closely with internal engineering teams and third-party suppliers to escalate and resolve more complex issues.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in networking who enjoys problem solving and working within a fast-paced service provider environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Handle inbound customer and partner incidents, faults, and service requests in line with SLA targets
* Monitor network infrastructure and customer services using internal monitoring tools
* Troubleshoot connectivity issues relating to WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, and VoIP services
* Provide first-line support for LAN and wireless connectivity issues including client access and configuration queries
* Assist with firewall access checks and basic VPN connectivity troubleshooting
* Document incidents, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions within ticketing systems
* Communicate updates to customers throughout the lifecycle of support tickets
* Notify stakeholders of planned maintenance and service-impacting changes
* Produce outage reports and coordinate with internal teams or suppliers when required
* Maintain knowledge base documentation for recurring issues and solutions
* Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Experience providing technical support within a service desk or network support environment
* Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
* A proactive mindset with strong attention to detail
Desirable
* Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, A+, or similar
* Understanding of WAN connectivity technologies including DIA, Ethernet WAN, VPNs, and broadband
* Familiarity with monitoring platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, Zabbix, LibreNMS)
* Experience working with ticketing platforms such as Zendesk, Remedy, or Salesforce
* Previous experience in a Network Engineering role
