Remuneration:
Non-Executive Director (NED) - £13,000 per annum
Associate Non-Executive Director - £10,000 per annum
Expenses: Mileage and other expenses payable in line with Trust policy
Time commitment: Approximately three days per month
We are seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director, ideally with financial experience, and an Associate Non-Executive Director, ideally with a clinical background, to join our Trust Board, although applications from all are welcomed. As a Trust Board member, you will play a key role in shaping, informing and supporting the delivery of our strategic vision, including our Exceptional Care Together strategy. You will provide constructive challenge, strategic oversight and independent judgement, contributing to the Trust's continued development and long-term sustainability.

The role includes attendance at Trust Board meetings and other key engagements; however, much of the commitment is flexible.
While many applicants may hold a portfolio of part-time appointments, applications are also welcomed from individuals in full-time employment who are able to accommodate Non-Executive Director responsibilities alongside their existing role.

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in England. With over 14,000 staff, we deliver care across 48 clinical specialties, providing services to more than one million patients each year and serving a population of a similar size across South Derbyshire, South-East Staffordshire and surrounding areas.
The Trust operates across five hospitals, including the Royal Derby Hospital - our largest site - and Queens Hospital Burton. UHDB provides a broad range of acute and community services, including one of the largest Trauma and Orthopaedics services in the country, as well as children's services at both Derby and Burton hospitals.

Non-Executive Director - Job Description
Role Summary
Non-Executive Directors are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and leadership to the Trust in the pursuit of its strategies to provide effective and high-quality health and social care services. Non-Executive Directors role model behaviours and values, setting the right tone and culture at the Trust Board, acting in a unitary way in terms of a shared common purpose, aligning to the Trust values and a high challenge high support culture.
The Non-Executive Directors should scrutinise the performance of the Trusts Executive Team in meeting agreed goals and objectives and monitor the reporting of performance. They should satisfy themselves as to the integrity of financial, clinical and other information and that financial and clinical quality controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible, and that an inclusive culture aligned with the strategic direction of the Trust is being achieved. They are responsible for determining appropriate levels of remuneration of Executive Directors and have a prime role in appointing and where necessary, removing Executive Directors and in succession planning.
Associate Non-Executive Director - Job Description
Role Summary
The role of Associate Non-Executive Director (NED) will provide insight into the role and responsibilities of being an NHS Non-Executive Director and help bridge gaps in experience such as:
Operating at board level
Transition from executive to non-executive roles
Board level exposure in organisations of large size and complexity
Knowledge of NHS structures and accountability, how the money flows, who the key partners are, where all the regulators fit and the Board's role in quality and safety.
The Associate NED role will be for a maximum of three years and provide the opportunity to learn first-hand about the challenges and opportunities associated with being a NED in the NHS.
The Associate NED role will be supported by an induction and development programme which will include:
Access to Trust Board and Committee meetings and papers, including an opportunity to review and analyse meetings to learn with Trust Board members, as appropriate.
The assignment of an experienced NED buddy to provide regular feedback and advice.
Access to training and networking opportunities available to substantive NEDs.
