Basic Objectives of the Post

The successful Nursery Deputy Manager will become a member of the management team ensuring the effective development and management of the centre. Providing leadership and direction to the staff team, to create an environment which integrates care and education where children can achieve their fullest potential. To ensure equal opportunities is an integral part of all areas of centre practice.

Main duties and Responsibilities

Deputy Manager duties

1. To provide assistance to the manager with the internal management of the centre and for the long and short-term centre planning.

2. To assist the manager in the setting up and maintaining the centre budget, ensuring there are effective systems in place for he handling, receipt and banking of incomes in accordance with the companies standards.

3. The Deputy Manager will assist the manager in setting up and maintaining appropriate and effective administrative systems in place for the sound day-to-day running of the centre.

4. To assist the manager and in the absence of the manager, take responsibility for the management, deployment, supervision and training of all staff in the centre.

5. To work closely with the management team, ensuring there are effective systems in place for evaluation, monitoring, assessment, observation and recording of children’s progress.

6. To assist the manager with the management, review admissions and placements to the centre ensuring children are appropriately placed and supported.

7. To produce regular written reports for the Directors on the progress and plans of the centre.

8. To act as Manager in their absence.

9. To ensure staff rotas are produced to ensure staff ratios are maintained.

10. To ensure staff planning, observations and folders are maintained.

11. To be aware of the companies Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities are maintained.

12. To carryout any other duties required to ensure the smooth running of the nursery.

Curriculum

1. The Nursery Deputy Manager will assist in the planning, organising and implementing of the Early Years Foundation Stage for the centre.

2. To be actively involved in promoting and developing the integration of care and education within the centre, providing an appropriate environment for children throughout the day, having regard for children’s needs, experiences and stages of development.

Centre Development

1. The Nursery Deputy Manager will assist the manager with, the afterschool club and holiday club, establishing links with schools, other providers and services.

2. To establish and maintain positive links with families, developing and encouraging parental involvement in the centre.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

1. To ensure the centre operates in accordance to the companies’ policies and procedures for Special Educational Needs and Child Protection.

2. To ensure the centre operates in accordance with Ofsted standards.

3. Ensure the centre complies with the Health and Safety procedures.

4. To interview, select and appoint staff in accordance with the Companies policies and procedures.

5. To attend and participate in all relevant panels, care conference meetings, task groups, representing the centre as required.

6. To be a key-holder, and to be available outside working hours if necessary.

7. To carry out any other duties as required, ensuring the smooth running of the centre.

Nursery Deputy Manager requirements

1. Candidate must hold a relevant early years/childcare qualification level 4, and have relevant experience.

2. Minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience in and early years/childcare setting.

3. Some management experience within an early years setting and ability to lead, supervise and motivate staff.

4. Knowledge and understanding of early year’s education and care of current rends in early year’s provision.

5. Proven skills in managing and allocating resources.

6. Proven experience of developing parental and community involvement.

7. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a range of audiences verbally and in writing.

8. Ability to work with a wide range of partners from a range of statutory and voluntary agencies.

9. Demonstrate a commitment to the companies’ Equal Opportunities policy.
