This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about early years education and committed to supporting children’s development in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the nursery team to ensure children receive excellent care while promoting their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development.
Key Responsibilities The Nursery Practitioner will work closely with the nursery team to: • Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and safeguarding of all children in their care, creating a secure and nurturing environment for learning and development. • Support children’s daily routines and contribute to their overall development through engaging activities and positive interactions. • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a high standard of care, communication, and professionalism throughout the nursery.
Main Duties Team Contribution • Work as an active and supportive member of the nursery team, contributing to a positive working environment and upholding the nursery’s professional standards. • Follow nursery policies and procedures and apply them consistently in daily practice. • Support and encourage students or trainees within the setting, leading by example and contributing to their learning and development.
Supporting Children and Families • Act as a Key Worker for a group of children, building positive relationships with both children and their families. • Communicate effectively with children at their developmental level during activities, routines, and mealtimes. • Support children as they settle into the nursery, helping both children and parents feel comfortable and reassured. • Promote and encourage good personal hygiene habits. • Ensure children are happy, settled, and ready to return home at the end of their nursery session. • Provide daily feedback to parents through verbal updates or written communication. • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling personal or sensitive information. • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all families and direct any queries to senior staff where appropriate.
Planning and Administration • Support the delivery of stimulating learning experiences that align with the Early Years curriculum and children’s developmental stages. • Maintain accurate and up-to-date developmental records for children. • Assist with maintaining daily routines within the nursery rooms. • Ensure registers and sign-in procedures are completed accurately. • Maintain organised records and documentation in line with nursery standards.
Communication and Team Engagement • Attend and actively contribute to team meetings and room discussions. • Maintain clear communication with management regarding daily activities or concerns. • Follow nursery procedures for communication with parents and carers. • Report any maintenance or facility issues to management promptly. • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding nursery operations, staff, children, and families.
Health and Safety • Follow all health and safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for children, staff, and visitors. • Adhere to risk assessments and act on recommendations to minimise potential hazards. • Maintain high standards of hygiene through cleaning, sterilising equipment, and record keeping. • Ensure toys and resources are stored safely and maintained properly. • Keep nursery rooms clean and organised at the end of each day. • Report damaged or unsafe equipment to management. • Participate in fire drills and emergency procedures as required. • Ensure accidents are recorded appropriately and communicated to management and parents. • Conduct safety checks on electrical equipment where required
