Are you experienced in marine science, policy, or regulatory frameworks across the UK?

Can you analyze complex scientific, policy, and regulatory information to develop clear, actionable plans?

Can you communicate this information effectively through accessible reports for Ministers, Parliament, and the public?

If so, we want to hear from you.

The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) aims to safeguard and enhance the natural environment. Established by the Environment Act 2021, our role is to hold government and public bodies in England and Northern Ireland accountable. We report on progress towards environmental commitments, advise on legal changes, and handle public complaints that may lead to investigations and enforcement actions.

This role is within the OEP’s Insights Directorate, which focuses on holding governments accountable for delivering environmental goals and targets, aligned with Environmental Improvement Plans.

With just over 90 staff, we are a dynamic, friendly, and flexible organization covering England, Northern Ireland, and UK-reserved environmental matters. We offer flexible working options, including part-time and job-share arrangements, and the opportunity to contribute to impactful environmental work.

The OEP is an independent non-departmental public body sponsored by Defra in England and DAERA in Northern Ireland. Employees are public servants and can enroll in the Civil Service Pension Scheme.
