Job Description

Who are we?

Mathnasium is a global franchise company with over 1,200 maths-only learning centres worldwide. We teach maths to children for understanding, in a way that makes sense to them! Most importantly, we make maths fun and grow children’s confidence. Working with us gives you the opportunity to contribute to our mission of changing lives through maths and being the best educational tuition centre in the country.

The Role

The Operations and HR Advisor is a new and evolving role, and the right person will have real scope to shape it. It sits across two areas: business operations (the heavier piece, especially early on) and HR administration, focused on consistency and quality of process for prospective, new and existing employees.

You will be home-based with a presence at our three London centres; Clapham, Blackheath, and Wimbledon, around three days a month.

We are looking for someone who is self-sufficient, proactive, communicative and comfortable managing a varied workload without close supervision. Flexibility for operational emergencies is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Administration

  • Provide general operations admin support including reports, insurance renewals, health and safety and light facilities coordination
  • Act as a first point of contact for incident logistics, coordinating with suppliers for urgent centre issues as needed
  • Support Head Office with ad hoc operational tasks as the business grows and priorities shift
  • Build relationships with teams at 3 key centres: Clapham, Blackheath, Wimbledon (roughly 3 days a month spent working at these centres - one day at each).

HR & People

  • Own the day-to-day execution of hiring processes: posting roles, coordinating applications and managing candidate communications
  • Support the onboarding and induction of new hires, including LMS enrolments, pre-boarding communications, and Day 1 logistics
  • Maintain and update HR records, contracts and people documentation
  • Support probation processes: scheduling reviews, preparing documentation and flagging timelines to managers
  • Provide first-line employee relations triage, escalating to legal guidance (via Citation/Atlas) where required
  • Support benefits administration and assist with periodic reward and package reviews

About you

We are looking for a safe pair of hands; someone reliable, pragmatic and capable who can be trusted to keep things running smoothly, take ownership and deal with issues as they arise. This matters more to us than specific qualifications. You will be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and communicating clearly with a small, busy team.

You will bring

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail: you keep things moving and don't let things fall through the cracks
  • A proactive, can-do attitude: you spot what needs doing and get on with it
  • Some generalist HR experience, gained through practice rather than necessarily through formal qualification (CIPD not required)
  • Confidence handling employee relations queries at a first-line level, knowing when to escalate and when to resolve
  • Comfortable predominantly working from home and self-managing your workload, with excellent proactive communication with your line manager
  • Good written communication skills: you will be drafting correspondence, letters, and candidate communications
  • Flexibility to respond to operational needs outside of standard hours when genuinely necessary

Experience in a franchise environment or multi-site business would be an advantage but is not essential.

What we offer

  • Salary up to £35,000 depending on experience
  • Home-based working with a flexible and supportive team
  • A varied role with real breadth and the opportunity to help shape how people operations works as the business grows
  • A small, close-knit Head Office team where your contribution will be visible and valued
