Job Description

The Operations Manager works a 5 days on, 2 days off schedule and is currently based out of Banff, AB. The Operations Manager plays a critical role in managing key aspects of the transportation division including the dispatch team, who is responsible for ensuring accurate, fair and efficient assignment of transportation equipment and drivers to fulfill business requirements across our network. This position is the first point of contact for tracking operations and resources, and executing daily activity for Brewster Transportation.
The ideal candidate is a positive communications professional and an organized, logistical thinker who can work independently with minimal supervision.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as a strategic partner to transportation leadership team, aligning operational priorities with Brewster Transportations business goals and guest experience vision.
Mentor, coach and develop dispatch and driver team in operational excellence principles, cultivating a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Ensure all stakeholders’ needs are met through efficient utilization of equipment and drivers.
Create and maintain reporting systems, scorecards, and dashboards to communicate results to senior leadership.
Champion change management efforts that enable smooth adoption of new systems and standards.
Partner with business leaders to identify operational gaps, streamline processes, and drive measurable improvements in service and efficiency across all areas (Banff, Airdrie).
Assist in developing hiring plans and executing driver training for class 2 and 4 licenses.
Learning of dispatch program to provide coverage for dispatchers as necessary.
Lead investigations into driver incidents and complaints
Conduct ride along and observation reports of driver team as required
Confirms accuracy of driver pay through daily time sheet approvals
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Exceptional leadership and coaching skills with the ability to influence across diverse teams and geographies.
5+ years of proven managerial experience in operations
Proven track record of designing and leading operational systems that improve both team and guest satisfaction and efficiency.
Well organized and an excellent communicator with a keen sense of timeliness
Strong customer service skills, demonstrated attention to detail, problem solving and planning abilities
Mature and possess a proven ability to thrive and lead independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Able to multi-task and handle high stress situations calmly and logically
Proven analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to think on the fly and outside the box to solve problems with a positive attitude
Able to communicate fluently in English; ability to communicate and comprehend over two-way radio required
Strong administration and computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn in-house systems.
Secondary skills are an asset
Previous operational experience and/or experience in a union environment is an asset
Previous commercial driving experience including knowledge of federal hours of service and/or the Safety Code is preferred
Flexible and able to work shifts
Willing to sign a confidentiality agreement
