Operations Manager (Engineering & Technical)
Temporary Contract - Manchester
A leading estates and facilities operation is seeking an experienced Operations Manager (Engineering & Technical) to oversee the delivery of electrical and lighting‑related projects, statutory compliance, and subcontractor performance across a large, complex site.
This role requires a strong electrical background, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead both strategic planning and day‑to‑day operational delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Delivery
Develop a full lighting lifecycle strategy, including design, manufacturer liaison, sequencing and long‑term planning. Produce technical reports, condition assessments and lifecycle planning documents. Build a multi‑year (approx. 5‑year) delivery plan for lighting replacement programmes.
Operational Delivery
Manage emergency lighting remedial works. Coordinate with the supply chain to replace failed fittings and clear backlog tasks. Oversee reactive and planned maintenance activities delivered by subcontractors. Ensure full statutory and organisational compliance across engineering activities.
Stakeholder Management
Engage senior stakeholders across the estate and partner organisations. Collaborate with internal engineering, operational and project teams. Provide technical support, guidance and assurance across the site.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Strong electrical bias with experience working in complex, safety‑critical environments (healthcare experience advantageous). Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services. Proven background in electrical operations, technical management or engineering leadership. Demonstrable experience managing subcontractors and supply chain partners. Solid understanding of statutory electrical compliance requirements. Experience working across large estates (PFI/healthcare desirable).
Soft Skills
Confident communicator with strong influencing skills at senior level. Able to work autonomously and manage competing priorities. Highly organised with strong planning and coordination ability. Professional, collaborative and able to build strong working relationships.
