Role Overview
We are Currently recruiting for an industry experienced Operations Manager to be based in our UK office. The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing and optimising end-to-end operational processes across the UK payments business. This role ensures seamless day-to-day operations, adherence to FCA regulatory standards, effective safeguarding of customer funds, and strong operational governance.
The ideal candidate has deep experience in PSP/e-money environments, understands UK payments infrastructure, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, scaling fintech.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee daily operations across payment processing, settlements, reconciliations, merchant support, and transaction monitoring workflows.
- Ensure high levels of operational efficiency, accuracy, and compliance across all processes.
- Manage relationships with acquiring banks, payment partners, technology providers, and key third-party vendors.
- Drive SLA performance, operational KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance & Safeguarding
- Lead the safeguarding process to ensure full compliance with FCA requirements under the Payment Services Regulations (PSRs) and Electronic Money Regulations (EMRs).
- Oversee segregation of customer funds, safeguarding account reconciliation, and maintenance of safeguarding procedures.
- Work closely with Compliance, Finance, and Legal to ensure all operational controls meet regulatory expectations.
- Support internal and external audits, including FCA thematic reviews.
Risk & Governance
- Identify operational risks, implement controls, and ensure issues are promptly escalated and remediated.
- Maintain robust documentation including SOPs, risk registers, business continuity plans, and incident logs.
- Drive operational readiness for new products, markets, and regulatory changes.
People & Stakeholder Management
- Manage and mentor operational staff across payments, settlements, and support functions.
- Collaborate with Product, Technology, Finance, Compliance, and Commercial teams to ensure aligned execution.
- Champion a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and regulatory discipline.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5–7 years’ operations experience within a UK PSP, e-money institution, or regulated fintech.
- Proven experience managing FCA safeguarding, including safeguarding accounts, daily/weekly reconciliations, and end-to-end safeguarding controls.
- Strong understanding of PSRs, EMRs, and FCA expectations for operational governance.
- Hands-on knowledge of UK payments ecosystems (Open Banking, Faster Payments, CHAPS, card acquiring, BIN sponsorship, issuing, etc.).
- Experience leading operational teams in high-growth fintech environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and process-improvement skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred
- Experience with EMI/Small EMI frameworks.
- Exposure to fraud management, AML operations, or financial crime processes.
- Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 27001), PCI-DSS, or operational resilience frameworks.
