Role Description
This is a part time Accounts Assistant position, based in Swindon with a hybrid working arrangement, combining home based working with occasional on site meetings.
The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of day to day accounting tasks, supporting both clients and the wider accounting team. This includes bookkeeping, payroll processing, VAT returns, credit control, petty cash reconciliation and general financial administration.
This role requires a proactive and organised individual who can manage multiple client portfolios, communicate confidently with clients and work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Skills and Experience Required
- AAT qualified
- Minimum 3 years bookkeeping experience, including trial balance reconciliations
- Experience using Xero, Sage, QuickBooks and FreeAgent
- Strong spreadsheet skills
- Strong problem solving ability
- Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Experience managing up to 20 client portfolios per month
- Experience preparing and reconciling VAT returns
- Payroll processing experience
- Secretarial or general administrative support experience
- Confident communicating with clients and requesting relevant financial information when required
- Knowledge of VAT accounting schemes, including accrual and cash accounting
- Ability to reconcile quarterly accounts and balance sheet items to trial balance level
- Able to work on own initiative without micromanagement, supporting preparation of year end accounts
- Strong attention to detail and ability to review own work for accuracy
Core Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping and Accounts
- Monthly bank reconciliations within accounting software
- Allocation of expenses to correct nominal codes
- Credit control activities and client follow ups
- Petty cash reconciliation
- Supporting general financial and accounting processes
Payroll
- Preparing monthly payroll for up to 20 clients
- Ensuring RTI submissions are completed
- Advising clients of payroll liabilities
- Ensuring payroll balances reconcile with HMRC records
Person Specification
- Strong organisational skills and proactive mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to manage a portfolio of clients independently
- Confident self starter, able to manage own workload effectively
- Quick to learn systems, processes and procedures
- Flexible approach to hybrid working
- Must be based within approximately 20 miles of Swindon (SN1 1HN)
- Must be eligible to work in the UK, unfortunately visa sponsorship is not available
Hours and Salary
- Starting rate £15.00 per hour for the first three months
- Approximately 30 hours per week initially, with potential to increase
This role is primarily home based, however the successful candidate must be able to attend occasional meetings in Swindon and therefore should live within approximately 45 minutes travelling distance of SN1 1HN.
