Key Purpose of the Role
To lead and coordinate pastoral care provision across a year group or whole school. To promote positive behaviour, attendance, and engagement in learning. To act as a key point of contact for students, parents, and staff regarding welfare and behaviour concerns.Main Responsibilities
Student Welfare & Support Provide guidance, mentoring, and emotional support to students. Identify and address barriers to learning, including social, emotional, and behavioural issues. Work closely with safeguarding leads to ensure student safety. Behaviour & Attendance Monitor attendance and punctuality, implementing interventions where needed. Support behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches. Maintain accurate records of incidents, interventions, and progress. Parental & Community Engagement Liaise with parents/carers to discuss concerns and progress. Build positive relationships with external agencies (e.g., social services, youth support). Collaboration with Staff Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and senior leaders to support student needs. Share good practice and contribute to staff training on pastoral matters.Skills & Qualities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Empathy, patience, and resilience. Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially. Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise. Typical Requirements
Experience in a pastoral, welfare, or youth work role. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. Understanding of behaviour management strategies
