Plant HR Manager - Union

General Purpose:
Administers corporate policies relating to compensation, benefits and leave, employment and labor relations, training, and health and safety programs. The Plant HR Manager coordinates activities such as recruiting, performance management, employee development, succession planning, management of the local collective bargaining agreement, and oversees general administration and employee services. Recommends strategic best practice methods to plant management and its employees. Ensures regulatory and ethical compliance when performing the following duties personally or though managers.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities that are requirements in order to perform the job:
Serve as the HR subject matter expert by participating on the plant management team
Provide guidance and best practices to promote a positive work environment
Consult on organizational design and labor planning; administer change when needed
Administer timekeeping, payroll, paid time off, and reporting for plant employees
Conduct full cycle recruiting activities to fill vacant positions
Administer new hire onboarding, , and new hire training per plant requirements
Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement by actively participating in matters of labor relations, grievance resolution, and contract negotiations. Attends arbitration meetings as needed.
Resolve employment and labor relations issues through good faith investigation and problem solving, escalating issues of significance to the Corporate HR Manager or designee
Administer Employee Handbook policies and procedures for non-union employees
Participate in employee performance discussions and provide consult and support for corrective actions, when needed
Recommend and facilitate training plans to ensure employee development and succession of the workforce
Develop plant programs that support the achievement of goals and objectives, process improvements, and automation of data
Conduct exit and stay interviews, analyze data, and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement
Ensure legal and ethical compliance are followed in all employment and labor matters
Support open enrollment, wellness program activities, and 401k education
Manage work comp and unemployment claims avoiding unnecessary cost whenever possible
Support and participate in environmental, health and safety initiatives and programs
Participate as a member of the Corporate HR Team working on objectives, projects, and programs as assigned
Supportive Functions:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based on business needs:
Serve as a resource for policy, payroll, and/or benefit questions
Fulfill requests from the corporate office as needed
Other administrative/managerial tasks as directed
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policies with accuracy
Ability to communicate professionally to employees at all levels of the company
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, other employees, and the general public
Ability to solve practical and complex problems using technical knowledge
Requires a workable knowledge and operating skills to manage and share information via Microsoft Office and other HR/Business Software
Act as a subject matter expert to coach and counsel when the need arises
Ability to travel on occasion
Education/Experience Guidelines:
Bachelor's degree with concentration in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or 5 years of HR Generalist or HR Manager experience and a SHRM-SCP certification, or 6+ years of HR Generalist of HR Manager experience required
5+ years of HR experience in a manufacturing environment required
Labor relations in a union environment
