This is a fixed term contract until the end of 2026 - with the potential to be made permanent. About The Role As Portfolio and Strategy Lead, you will ensure our portfolio of programmes and projects is coherent, prioritised, and aligned with Calisen’s strategic objectives. You will combine hands‑on PMO discipline with strategic insight, enabling effective decision‑making across the organisation. This role defines and operates our portfolio governance framework, ensuring transparency of delivery performance and providing senior stakeholders with accurate, timely information to support prioritisation and resourcing decisions. You’ll champion best practice in change delivery and drive continuous improvement across the Calisen group. This is portfolio management in action - practical, influential, and central to how we deliver our strategic goals. Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong portfolio governance frameworks aligned to organisational strategy. Ensure programmes and projects are prioritised based on strategic value, risk, capacity, and expected benefits. Drive structured portfolio reviews, providing dashboards and insights to support executive decision‑making. Manage portfolio KPIs, standards, and controls, including spend tracking, delivery forecasting, and benefits realisation. Deliver accurate reporting on project and programme status, risks, dependencies, and benefits. Manage C‑Suite and Director expectations through clear, consistent communication. Lead Centralised Best Practice - own the Change Delivery Framework and drive continuous improvement. Own and manage the resource allocation process for priority initiatives.
About You You’ll bring a blend of strategic thinking, analytical capability, and hands‑on portfolio delivery. Qualifications
Degree in a relevant discipline Professional project/programme management accreditation e.g. PRINCE2, MSP, MoP
Knowledge
Strong understanding of portfolio management methodologies (e.g., MoP) Knowledge of project/programme methodologies (PRINCE2, Agile) Confident with data, reporting, Power BI, dashboards, and KPIs
Experience
Extensive hands‑on experience managing strategic, enterprise‑wide portfolios Demonstrated ability to establish and lead Portfolio Office functions Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Strong senior‑level influencing capability Ability to analyse complex portfolios and support effective decision‑making Experience in the utilities or energy sector (Desirable)
Technical Competencies
Advanced portfolio management skills - prioritisation, dependency mapping, governance Ability to lead organisations through adoption of portfolio management Strong strategic alignment and benefits realisation capability Resource and capacity planning across enterprise portfolios Financial management experience: budgeting, forecasting, cost control Strong change management advocacy Able to analyse delivery risk, highlight trends, and focus stakeholders on key issues Comfortable operating between strategic (Exec‑level) and hands‑on delivery work
