Job Description
Contract Job: Senior Power Systems Engineer | London | Outside IR35
I’m working with a space-tech organisation that’s ramping up one of their mission programmes and needs an experienced Power Systems Engineer to jump in quickly. This is a 6-month contract, outside IR35, with an immediate start available (as early as next week).
If you’ve worked on spacecraft power or avionics systems and want to get involved in something genuinely interesting, this one’s worth a look.
What the role involves
You’ll be the go-to person for anything related to spacecraft power performance and architecture. Expect a mix of system-level thinking and detailed technical input — working closely with engineers across disciplines and suppliers.
Typical work will include:
Developing and reviewing power system architectures Building and maintaining power budgets and performance models Supporting design, analysis and problem-solving across missions Working with suppliers on key hardware deliveries Getting involved in test planning, integration activities and verification work Producing (and improving) technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle Contributing to internal development of future power electronics and subsystems
What they’re looking for
A background in electronics, power systems or similar engineering fields Strong experience with spacecraft or high-reliability power electronics Understanding of DC/DC converters, power conditioning, battery systems, solar array interfaces etc. Solid systems engineering skills — requirements, architecture, analysis, trade-offs Experience working through formal design phases and reviews Ability to collaborate confidently with multidisciplinary teams and external partners
Bonus experience (not essential)
Broader avionics/electrical systems exposure Hands-on electronics test/debug experience Knowledge of standards such as ECSS or MIL Familiarity with motor/actuator drive electronics
