Job Description

BAM UK & Ireland's Infrastructure Segment are seeking a Preconstruction Manager to provide strategic leadership, co-ordinate and manage bidding activity across the HS&M Business Unit and support the wider Transportation Sector. Ensuring a coherent and consistent approach to successfully meet client requirements, BAM objectives and assure BAM Stage Gate corporate governance from SG1-4.

Making Possible

As Preconstruction Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

Building the Team

  • Organising and leading Business Unit Preconstruction meetings, forums and regular updates
  • Proactively participating and contribution to Transport Sector Preconstruction meetings
  • Ensuring, in conjunction with the Business Unit Leadership Team, HS&M Director and Sector Preconstruction Lead , a preconstruction competency within the business unit
  • Setting the example of the professional behaviours expected
  • Ensuring with the HS&M Director and Sector Preconstruction Lead that sufficient number and calibre of resources made available to the Bid Manager for each tender, working with the leadership team as required.


Strategic

  • Working in close cooperation with the HS&M Director, Sector Client Director and Sector preconstruction Lead to focus on preconstruction activities to meet the Business Unit OP objectives and long-term strategy
  • Acting as the business unit representative at Transport Sector and Infrastructure Segment Preconstruction meetings
  • Ensuring factual pipeline information for the HS&M Business Unit is visible on CRM and shared with the Business Unit and Sector Leadership Teams
  • Overseeing compliance with and acting as the point of contact for Tender Desk and the Stage Gate process for the rail sector (Stage 1-4 inclusive)
  • Engaging with Head of Estimating and Estimating team to ensure cognisance of market trends and stability are accounted for in risk management and budgets
  • Ensuring in conjunction with the HS&M Director, Sector Client Director, Sector Preconstruction Lead, Client Relationship Leads and bid managers that win strategies are produced for all bids and that sufficient pre-position information is being collated
  • Developing supply chain / SMEs strategic HS&M BU approach and relationships to drive value for money bid and delivery propositions


Leading and motivating

  • Leading, mentoring, motivating and energising bid managers, teams and individuals
  • Coaching, encouraging and maintaining positivity within teams
  • Collating, sharing and embedding Bid Management best practice
  • Obtaining, sharing and applying lessons learned from bid feedback
  • Proactively identifying and solving issues within organisation, individual and logistics to facilitate bid process and production
  • Encouraging and harnessing creative and imaginative proposals from within the team to ensure the development of the best possible solution
  • Driving, developing, reviewing and evolving bid strategies regularly through the bid process
  • Solid understanding of contract, technical and pricing processes to allow challenge of proposed strategies
  • Supporting the wider team, collaborating to find successful solutions
  • Coordinating BU Bid Management Training in conjunction with Sector Preconstruction Lead
  • Undertaking any other duties that may be assigned by line management
What do you bring to the role?

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of the UK Infrastructure market & previous Rail or Major Project orientated experience would be beneficial
  • Strong communication skills (written, oral and aural)
  • Ability to bring teams together and work effectively
  • Risk management, commercial and contractual awareness
  • Experience working in the preconstruction environment

Desirable:

  • Bid Management competence / experience
  • Professionally qualified to Chartered Engineer or equivalent
  • Existing knowledge and relationships with a relevant client body, eg. HS2, TfL, Network Rail and other industry clients and stakeholders
