A Little More About Your Role

  • You will be joining our expanding Buildings Technology Services team, as a Smart Building technical specialist, with accountability for the Smart Building design, project management and delivery of projects from inception through to handover to the client.
  • At WSP our Building Technology Systems (BTS) team provide Smart, ICT, Audio Visual & System Integration design. We’re looking for a Principal or Associate level Engineer to join the UK Building Technology Systems team with a strong background in technical smart hospital integration & system architecture.
  • Take a key technical leadership role leading from concept stage through to detailed design, managing technology design & systems integration design activities on multi-disciplinary design projects in coordination with Architects, Engineers, and specialist consultants.
  • You will liaise with clients and stakeholders to understand, develop, and interpret their requirements from concept stage through to detailed design, on multi-disciplinary design projects in coordination with Architects, Engineers, and specialist consultants.
  • Collaborate across WSP with specialists in areas like Security, Lighting, ICT, VT, BMS, AV to develop holistic and comprehensive Smart Buildings solutions.
  • Create future‑ready buildings to deliver great user experiences, innovating the building landscape.

Your Team

  • We work on a variety of projects, helping clients to navigate and embrace emerging technologies. We work closely with building owners, tenants, and developers from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on user experience, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Our UK Building Services Team is delivering projects ranging from High Rise Towers such as 22 Bishopsgate and 40 Leadenhall, to hyper‑scale Data Centres, to Stadia such as Fulham Football Club to transformative Healthcare projects such as the Monklands Hospital digital twin.
  • As leaders in Building Technology consultancy, our aim is to set the standard for providing specialist ICT and Smart Building consulting to clients across the built environment.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • A passion for the future of technology in the built environment, and deep curiosity for exploring its potential applications and innovations.
  • Experience in Smart Hospital Technology design and project delivery of medium to large building projects, including healthcare experience.
  • Familiar with NHP Smart Building guidelines and Gap analysis process.
  • Assist in the development of digital strategies for intelligent healthcare capabilities centred around Smart buildings. This could include integration approaches, solution review, technical specifications, and architecture topologies. Integrated systems could include intelligent BMS, energy monitoring, and AI‑driven building capabilities, BIM, Digital Twin IoT sensors, and security.
  • Engage with clients, working groups, designers, and vendors to develop smart building solutions that meet client and governance criteria.
  • Develop, review and specify solution and solutions architectures that integrate building systems with enterprise IT infrastructure, interoperability, and data exchange considering cybersecurity and operational resilience.
  • Develop systems integration strategies that bridge traditional building automation with modern IoT, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems.
  • Capability to produce detailed design and performance specification, subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity considerations for smart building implementations.
  • Review reports and designs to evaluate approaches and technical designs against smart building expectations. Clearly document reviews, risk assessments, and issue resolution.
  • Excellent inter‑personal skills: work well within a multidisciplinary team; demonstrate good leadership potential and capabilities for communicating effectively with other members of the project team, stakeholders & clients.
  • A detailed understanding of specialist building systems including MEP, BMS, fire safety, lighting and security systems, the ICT infrastructure aspects of deploying modern smart buildings.
  • Understanding of design and specification and implementation of building systems technologies, documenting formal requirements for approval and development, and roadmaps to implementation.
  • In depth knowledge of smart building rating systems such as SmartScore, Smart Building certification; awareness of relevant industry accredited certification such as WELL, LEED, BREEAM, etc.
  • CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) / IET / Engineering Council accredited or specific experience that will lead to Chartership.
