A Little More About Your Role

As a Principal CAD/BIM Technician, you will form part of the existing team working with the project delivery teams to develop BIM models for the Structures discipline and interface with BIM leads in other disciplines to create federated models and undertake clash detection. Working with the Regional leads, Project Directors, Project Managers and input into the Technical Leadership Group to assist with developing a coherent design process that maximises data exchange across multiple software platforms.

Typical Week

  • Provide 3D modelling expertise to a variety of multidisciplinary projects in the Building Structures sector.
  • Act as project lead on multi-disciplinary jobs and liaise with counterparts in other disciplines.
  • Mentor and guide younger members of the team.
  • Manage, monitor and check work undertaken by iCRC external resource.
  • Provide close support to the Structures teams in the development of BIM within the business; knowledge of current BIM Level 2 documentation.
  • Actively support the development of skills and capabilities of the design teams to assist project delivery within a BIM compliant project environment, relevant to business needs.
  • Provide a supporting role to upskill BIM knowledge to internal colleagues and external consultants / subcontractors as required.
  • Develop and cross‑check model information against the Employer Information Requirements (EIR), including clash detection and validation of non‑graphical information.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with multi-disciplinary project teams and drive BIM benefits at the project level.
  • Monitor and advise on clash detection issues.
  • Produce high‑quality models and drawings in both 2D and 3D.
  • Apply knowledge of Health and Safety.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience in both 2D and 3D.
  • High level of relevant software experience such as Revit, Autocad and Navisworks.
  • Familiarity with other packages such as AecoSim / ProjectWise (not essential) would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of BIM360 cloud models.
  • Ability to manage data in a secure and controlled manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build positive working relationships.
  • Demonstrable experience of operating in a BIM Level 2 compliant environment.
  • Open to learning new software and processes.
  • Ability to coordinate others and manage own workload.
  • Minimum HNC/D level education in an engineering or other relevant subject, a clear understanding of Building Information Modelling and its benefits to the construction industry. A multidisciplinary approach to design, independent of background.
  • Excellent working knowledge of building construction and materials; knowledge of Eurocodes.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry standards such as BS1192, PAS1192, ISO19650 and associated documents.
  • Ability to sign and abide by confidentiality agreements.
