Principal Civil Design Engineer - Water Infrastructure (Clean Water / Pipelines / Reservoir Project)\n\n12‑month contract (Inside IR35) | Hybrid | Manchester or Peterborough\n\nOur client, a leading consultancy within the UK water sector, is expanding their team and seeking an experienced Principal Civil Design Engineer to support major new workstreams with Anglian Water, including the new reservoir project in the Fens and associated clean water pipeline infrastructure.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead and manage civil design activities for clean water infrastructure, pipelines, and reservoir‑related assets.\nProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and multidisciplinary design teams.\nEnsure all designs comply with Anglian Water standards, regulatory requirements, and JV governance frameworks.\nCollaborate with internal engineering teams, JV partners, and external stakeholders.\nOversee the production, review, and approval of detailed civil design documents and technical reports.\nAttend design reviews, project meetings, and contribute expert insights on engineering solutions.\nConduct site visits, including visits to Fens‑based project locations, to support delivery.\nMaintain rigorous safety, quality, and environmental compliance standards throughout the project lifecycle.\n\nJob Requirements\n\nSignificant experience in civil engineering design within the water/wastewater sector.\nStrong understanding of clean water pipeline design and (ideally) reservoir or major infrastructure works.\nProven leadership capability, with experience managing design teams and complex project interfaces.\nProficiency in civil design tools and software (e.g., Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, GIS tools).\nAbility to produce robust, detailed design documentation and engineering reports.\nExcellent communication skills for engaging with multi‑disciplinary teams and client stakeholders.\nRelevant engineering degree (or equivalent) required; chartership desirable.\n\nContract Details\n\n12‑month+ contract with ongoing extensions likely due to programme scope.\nInside IR35.\nHybrid working - typically 2-3 days in the Manchester or Peterborough office.\nInvolvement in one of the UK's most significant upcoming clean water and reservoir infrastructure programmes.\n\nInterested?\n\nIf you are a Principal Civil Design Engineer with strong water sector experience and want to contribute to a major new Anglian Water programme, we would love to hear from you.
