Be advised, the start date for the successful candidate will be June 2026 onwards The Radiotherapy Physics department provides a specialist technical radiotherapy physics service to the Lincolnshire Oncology Centre, contributing to safe treatment of patients for radiotherapy. It's responsible for ensuring the accurate calibration of all radiotherapy treatment machines and providing a routine quality control service for all equipment used in simulating, planning and treating radiotherapy patients. We have 3 Varian TrueBeams and are currently about to commission a Varian Halcyon replacement, planned on Eclipse. Our LDR and HDR brachytherapy service covers both prostate and gynae. This role will involve taking a lead role within the treatment planning team and will include:
Treatment planning and checking for complex radiotherapy plans. To take a lead role in the implementation of new techniques with support from the Treatment Planning Lead or the Head of Radiotherapy Physics. Management of specified staff within the treatment planning team including strategic approach to their training and development. Assessment of competencies in treatment planning. Participation in department MPE support as appropriate within areas of expertise. Line management of staff including staff recruitment, development and appraisal. To liaise closely with radiotherapy staff to ensure appropriate training and procedures are in place prior to the implementation of any new equipment or techniques. To provide appropriate training for clinical, physics and radiotherapy staff with respect projects on which you have been leading.
The role will be primarily split as subject to service needs with 2/3 in treatment planning and 1/3 in other sections where management skills and advice at a similar level would be expected.
