Principal Electrical Design Engineer, Full-Time – Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham (Hybrid - Office / Home)
We’re looking for a Principal Design Engineer to join our thriving team, a driven, ambitious professional who is ready to take ownership, lead design excellence, and make a tangible impact. This is a hands-on, role where you’ll have the freedom to shape projects, mentor colleagues, and influence the future of our business.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the design and delivery of electrical systems across a range of projects, from concept through construction and operation.
- Develop tailored, low-carbon energy solutions, balancing innovation, environmental performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Oversee technical deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practice.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to coordinate project outcomes.
- Support and mentor other electrical engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.

Qualifications & Attributes
- A strong ability to apply pragmatic electrical design solutions practically across real-world projects.
- Proven track record of design leadership, delivering successful projects from concept through construction and operation.
- Hands-on experience with design software (Trimble ProDesign, Relux, Dialux, Office, Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD) and tools, using them to create innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to lead technical teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- A proactive, ambitious, and growth-oriented mindset, someone who drives results, takes ownership, and thrives in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
- Commitment to sustainable, low-carbon, and energy-efficient design, with the ability to integrate environmental performance into every project.
- Understanding of building regulations, codes, and standards (local and national) and the ability to ensure compliance without compromising innovation.
- Formal qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field is expected but not essential; advanced degrees, chartered status, or professional certifications are a plus - but attitude, drive, and hands-on capability are the most important.
