Job Description
We are looking for a highly experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to join a leading engineering team supporting the UK nuclear sector. This is a senior technical leadership role where you will take responsibility for the delivery of complex electrical, control, and instrumentation solutions across a range of nuclear projects, including new build, life extension, decommissioning, and advanced reactor developments.
You will act as Responsible Engineer and Technical Authority, leading multidisciplinary teams, ensuring technical excellence, and delivering projects safely, on time, and to budget. You will also play a key role in shaping EC&I strategy, setting standards, mentoring engineers, and contributing to business development.
What You’ll Do
Lead EC&I engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle: bid, concept, detailed design, installation, commissioning
Act as Responsible Engineer / Technical Authority on major nuclear and high-hazard projects
Provide governance, quality assurance, and technical leadership for safety-critical systems
Design, integrate, test, and validate PLC, SCADA, simulator, and other control systems
Ensure compliance with UK nuclear safety regulations, ONR SAPs, and relevant international standards (IEC, BS, IEEE)
Drive innovation, digital tools adoption, and continuous improvement in EC&I engineering
Mentor and develop team members, building capability and technical expertise
Engage with stakeholders and senior clients to influence technical strategy and project delivery
What We’re Looking For
MEng, MSc, BEng, or BSc in EC&I or a relevant engineering discipline
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent
Proven experience in EC&I engineering leadership in the nuclear or highly regulated sectors
Deep knowledge of nuclear safety, regulation, and quality assurance processes
Experience delivering high-integrity control and instrumentation systems
Knowledge of design standards and guidelines (IEC 61508, 61511, 61513, 61226, BS, IEEE)
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience mentoring and developing engineering teams
