Principal Electrical Design Engineer\n\nLocation: Wolverhampton (Hybrid Working)\nSalary: Up to £83,000 + Package\nHours: 37 per week (flexible hours)\n\nAbout this Global Engineering OEM: \n\nYou'll be joining a major UK engineering firm near Wolverhampton with over six decades of expertise delivering high‑integrity engineered systems for complex, safety‑critical environments. \n\nThe business provides full lifecycle capability - design, EC&I engineering, manufacturing, assembly, testing, installation, and ongoing support - all delivered from advanced UK facilities.\n \nTheir teams work on bespoke, highly regulated projects involving complex machinery, precision control systems, and integrated multi‑disciplinary engineering challenges.\n\nAbout the Principal Electrical Design Engineer Role\n\nYou will:\n\nLead and manage EC&I engineering teams delivering high‑integrity and complex control systems for major projects involving mechanical handling machinery, process systems, and heavy engineering plant systems in highly regulated environments such as Energy, Research & Defence.\nOversee full lifecycle delivery from front‑end engineering through detailed design, manufacture, and client handover.\nTake on line management responsibilities, mentoring engineers and ensuring compliance with company standards. \n\nKey Responsibilities of Principal Electrical Design Engineer\n\nLead EC&I design teams across multiple projects, ensuring technical compliance and delivery within budget and schedule.\nDesign safety‑critical control systems including power distribution, PLC/DCS systems, SCADA‑based systems, and process instrumentation.\nOversee conceptual design studies, calculations, and substantiation documentation for mechanical handling machinery, process systems, and heavy engineering plant systems.\nManage design control files, verify calculations, and supervise design deliverables.\nCoordinate with other engineering disciplines and liaise with manufacturing, testing, and commissioning teams.\nEnsure compliance with UK H&S legislation and relevant standards.\nParticipate in HAZOP and design reviews.\nProvide technical input for tenders and support safety case submissions.\nDrive continuous improvement and problem‑solving initiatives.\nLine management duties include resource allocation, performance reviews, recruitment, and professional development.Security Requirements:\n\nThis position involves access to sensitive engineering projects.
