What you’ll be doing:
You’ll lead the development of the Stealth Engineering Above Water Signatures capability, working with cross‑functional teams to design low‑signature equipment and systems while helping define technical requirements, test methods, and approval criteria. You will review design documents to ensure signature compliance, lead modelling activities across radar, infrared, visual, and RF domains using both custom and commercial tools, and develop testing methodologies to validate performance. The role also involves managing research with internal teams and university partners and contributing to enhancements of stealth features on in‑service submarines.
Core duties:
You’ll have degree or equivalent experience in Maths, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM field
You’ll bring experience with modelling software, simulation tools, or programming environments
You have strong understanding of electromagnetism, radar, infrared, or visual detection technologies
You have familiarity with stealth systems, signature‑control methods, or related defence technologies
Experience in defence, large‑scale manufacturing, or work on naval or submarine systems
The Stealth Engineering Department:
As a Principal Engineer, you will be working with a team tasked with assuring the stealth performance of submarines built in Barrow. From concept system designs to the assessment of the whole submarine as part of major commissioning trials, you will be involved in all aspects of the submarine lifecycle from concept through to support of the in-service fleet. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
