We are currently working alongside an excellent large scale multidisciplinary engineering consultancy as they look to bring in either a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Building Services This organisation are renowned for successful project delivery across multiple sectors including Healthcare, Commercial, Education, Mixed-Use and more. Great opportunity to join a highly reputable brand with strong opportunities for learning, development and progression. Preferable Glasgow but would consider Edinburgh.


Role

  • Lead the mechanical design on a range of complex building services projects across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, residential.
  • Oversee and manage mechanical engineering design from concept through to construction stage, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and client requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers, ensuring high-quality output and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and technical assessments; review installation works and assist with commissioning as needed.
  • Manage client relationships, lead design meetings, and communicate technical solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, schedules, and design risk assessments in line with project and client requirements.


Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc) in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a recognised institution (e.g. CIBSE, IMechE), or working towards chartership with clear evidence of progress.
  • Strong relevant experience in mechanical building services design, including demonstrable leadership on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, heat pump technologies, ventilation, pipework design, energy systems, and associated equipment selection.
  • Proven experience managing all stages of mechanical design, from concept through detailed design to construction and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with current UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, British Standards, and other relevant codes of practice.
