Lead Platform Engineer
• Lead Platform Engineer – Birmingham
• Salary up to £105,000 + excellent benefits
• SC cleared or SC eligible candidates required
• Work on large scale cloud platforms supporting critical UK public sector services

Our client is a global technology consultancy delivering secure digital transformation programmes across the UK public sector. Their engineering teams design and operate modern cloud platforms that power critical government services used by millions of every day. Due to continued growth across multiple programmes, they are looking to hire experienced Lead Platform Engineers to join their expanding engineering capability.

THE LEAD PLATFORM ENGINEER ROLE
As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will work within agile engineering teams designing, building and owning secure, scalable cloud platforms used across multiple teams and services within the UK public sector.
You will help deliver enterprise-scale infrastructure platforms that enable development teams to build, deploy, and operate secure digital services efficiently.
This is a hands-on engineering role with technical leadership responsibilities, rather than a people management position.
Typical responsibilities include:
• Designing, building and improving cloud infrastructure platforms at scale
• Developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (including reusable modules and patterns)
• Supporting and evolving container platforms using Kubernetes and Docker
• Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to automate delivery
• Improving platform reliability, monitoring and observability
• Providing technical leadership, setting engineering standards, and mentoring engineers across teams
LEAD PLATFORM ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Strong AWS cloud platform engineering experience
• Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform
• Container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker
• Strong Linux engineering and scripting experience
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab or similar tools
• Experience supporting large scale production cloud platforms
• Ability to provide technical leadership within engineering teams
Candidates must be SC cleared or eligible to obtain SC clearance.
