Job Description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Lead Stress Engineer to join a specialist Mechanical Analysis function to lead the structural design and development of a next- complex weapon platform.
This role performs the duties of a Lead Stress Engineer and reports into senior engineering leadership within the Mechanical Analysis discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the structural design and development of advanced aerospace structures across the full product lifecycle, from early concept through detailed design, qualification and in-service support
Deliver and oversee structural and thermal analysis activities using both classical hand calculations and CAE methods
Plan, estimate and manage structural analysis work packages to agreed technical, cost and schedule requirements
Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams across multiple UK sites
Produce, review and present clear, comprehensive technical reports and recommendations to a range of stakeholders, including senior management
Support qualification, design testing, fault investigation and loads derivation activities
Drive continuous improvement in analysis methods, processes and tools
Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to junior engineers within the team
The ideal candidate would have
A degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline, or equivalent significant industry experience
Strong experience in structural analysis across aerospace or similarly complex engineering products
Experience using CAE tools for static, dynamic, fatigue, non-linear and impact analysis (experience with Hyperworks is desirable)
Exposure to qualification and design testing environments
Composite stress analysis experience
A proactive approach to improving engineering capability and ways of working
The ideal candidate must have
Proven experience leading and delivering structural analysis work packages
Strong capability in classical hand calculation methods alongside CAE analysis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders
The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
A structured, analytical approach to problem solving
The ability and willingness to mentor and technically support junior engineers
