Job Description

Private Client Solicitor (all levels consider from 2 PQE onward)

Historic Landed Estates and Rural Wealth Practice

Central London

Lex Exec is working exclusively with one of London's oldest private client firms to appoint a rising Private Client Solicitor to join its busy landed estates team.

This is a unique opportunity to join a quietly top-tier private client boutique that advises some of the most significant landed families and estates in the UK.

Working with leading Partner's, the successful applicants will be exposed to the most interesting and exciting work this area has to offer from day one.

Our client has a best-in-class track record of retaining their people, with all solicitors effectively joining on "Partner track" from day one.

The firm

  • Long-established boutique private client firm with a centuries-old landed estates client base
  • Highly rated for private wealth work and known for meticulous, partner-led advice
  • True partnership culture and genuine career development opportunity

The firm was originally founded to act for a major English landed family and still advises that estate today alongside similar multi-generational client families. Their work is almost entirely domestic onshore focused, with only a small element of offshore where existing clients happen to hold overseas assets.

The work

You will focus on high-quality private client work for landed estates and ultra-high-net-worth families, including:

  • Tax, trusts and succession planning
  • Wills, letters of wishes and related structuring
  • Advising on APR and BPR and wider inheritance tax planning
  • Estate and trust administration in support of the private client team
  • Close collaboration with the property team on rural and estate related matters

Every client has at least one active Partner relationship and often two. Files are genuinely Partner led with associates working closely alongside them rather than at the bottom of a large leverage model.

Culture and working style

  • "Inverted pyramid" approach where partners are hands-on and accessible
  • Very collegiate environment
  • Strong emphasis on learning in person
  • Sensible targets around 1100 hours per year

The firm and their Clients value face to face contact, so there is a strong "in office culture" with many people in the office most days of each week.

What they are looking for

The firm hires with the clear expectation that all private client solicitors are potential future partners. Broadly they are seeking:

  • Private Client experience from a respected City, West End or strong regional firm
  • Excellent academics are essential
  • Solid grounding in private client work
  • Interest in landed estates, rural clients or agricultural matters
  • Calm communication style and a preference for close, long term client relationships
  • Desire to work in a traditional, low ego, partner led environment

Fit is essential. This role suits someone who enjoys detailed advisory work, deep client relationships and the stability of a very specialist boutique.

Apply

If you are a private client solicitor who enjoys detailed tax and succession work, has an interest in landed estates, and is keen on a real pathway to partnership in a boutique environment, Lex Exec would like to hear from you.
