An opportunity has arisen within our Design and Execution team for a Process Design Engineer with experience in Fluid System Design to undertake rig design supporting Verification and Validation (V&V) and production testing of Nuclear Steam Raising Plant components.
Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet. We are the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance, and through-life support.
The Process Design Engineer (Fluid Systems) will work as part of Integrated Project Teams to design new and modify existing multi-million-pound test rigs, primarily located in our Test Laboratory at Raynesway, Derby. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including internal resources, external design partners, and equipment suppliers, will be essential to develop the design intent for various rigs used for testing data related to R&T, V&V, component qualification, and through-life performance.

Your responsibilities include:
- Generating requirements, scoping work, and planning tasks with stakeholders.
- Applying fluid flow and thermal hydraulic theory to inform design decisions regarding system layout, component selection, and sizing, including creating P&ID diagrams, valve and equipment schedules, and sizing pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.
- Developing 1D system flow models and high-level control system logic.
We are looking for candidates with:
- Experience in a heavily regulated industry such as Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Energy, Water, or Nuclear.
- Experience in specifying, designing, or operating complex fluid/chemical process systems.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with thermo-fluids content.
- A proven track record of delivering solutions on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, process safety, and relevant standards.
- Understanding of design and safety assessment tools like HAZOP, HAZID, SWIFT, FMEAs.
- Desirable: Experience with 1D flow modeling software such as FloMaster.
