Job Title: Product Design Engineer

Location: York

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum

We are seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing company based in York. This role is well suited to someone with a strong automotive or consumer product background who can take ownership of a product from concept through to production, considering both how it operates and how it looks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop products from initial concept through to manufacture using SolidWorks.
• Take a holistic approach to product design, considering functionality, usability, aesthetics, and performance.
• Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Support prototyping, testing, validation, and design refinement.
• Manage design changes and maintain accurate technical documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across product ranges.

Skills & Experience Required:

• 5–10 years’ experience as a Product Design Engineer.
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Background in automotive, consumer products, or similar product-led industries.
• Strong understanding of product functionality, user interaction, and aesthetics.
• Experience designing products for manufacture and assembly.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage projects independently and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Relevant qualification in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
