The Post
We require a Product Specialist to join the Equipping Services team within NHSScotland Assure / Health Facilities Scotland.
In this post you will be involved in a number of new and ongoing healthcare developments.
Your role, working in conjunction with other Product Specialists, Senior Product Specialists, Project Managers and the wider team will include,
- To act as a Product Specialist providing specialist technical advice on medical and non-medical equipment, including but not limited to, Anaesthetics and Medical Gases, Intensive Care equipment and general Ward and OPD equipment. Practical experience of integration of medical/theatre equipment with IT systems would be advantageous. Other specialist disciplines may also be undertaken as and when required.
- Investigating reported medical equipment incidents, hazards and defects, liaising with hospital staff and other departments including Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates and Procurator Fiscal’s Office ensuring that appropriate safety advice is issued to users and corrective action undertaken by manufacturers and suppliers.
- To act as a Project Manager on a range of equipping projects. Manage equipping project related activities such as scheduling, costing, specifying, purchasing, delivery and cost control elements of projects.
A key part of the role will be managing conflicting workloads to ensure that project milestones are met, and the equipping of healthcare developments is completed on time and to client requirements.
Training may be provided in certain specialist areas as required. The new postholder will be encouraged to attend relevant trade fairs and conferences to help grow their product knowledge.
The Candidate
- Educated to HNC/HND or degree level in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a similar technical qualification.
- You will have extensive experience of medical equipment maintenance, repair and commissioning.
- You will have knowledge of a wide range of medical and non–medical equipment, suppliers and market, functionality, performance and safety standards.
- You will have excellent leadership qualities and communication skills, with significant project management experience ideally gained in a technical or procurement environment.
- You will have a positive outlook and strong customer focus.
- Our Head Office is Gyle Square, Edinburgh, EH12 9EB and have staff based in offices in Glasgow, Canderside and Inverness. We anticipate that a flexible approach to where we work will continue with a blend of home and office working depending on preference and service need.
- There will be a requirement for you to travel throughout Scotland on occasions which may necessitate overnight stays. You should therefore be flexible and able to travel when the need arises.
- Our standard working pattern is Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week, and will be subject to updates to Agenda for Change terms and conditions.
