Job Title: Production Engineer
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Location: Factory-based, Manchester Area
Holiday: 28 days plus Bank Holidays
Working Hours: 4-day week (Monday to Thursday)
About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Production Engineer to join their factory-based team. This is a hands-on role where you will play a critical part in maintaining the efficiency and reliability of their production lines, equipment, and site services. You’ll work closely with the Engineering Manager to minimise downtime, drive continuous improvements, and ensure high standards of safety and compliance across the site.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and refine production processes to meet quality and efficiency targets.
- Support the introduction of new products and processes into manufacturing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality, Operations, and Commercial to ensure production aligns with business needs.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to the CEO and COO on production engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
- Conduct preventative and reactive maintenance on production lines, utilities and equipment; ensuring minimal downtime and operational efficiency.
- Develop and maintain production documentation including work instructions and process specifications.
- Support troubleshooting of production issues and implement corrective actions.
Quality and Compliance
- Work closely with the Quality team to ensure production processes comply with industry standards and customer requirements.
- Assist in the investigation of non-conformities and the implementation of preventive measures.
- Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
New Product Introduction
- Support the engineering aspects of new product launches into production, including tooling, fixtures, and process validation.
- Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure smooth integration of new materials and components.
Cost and Efficiency Improvements
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce costs and increase productivity.
- Monitor production KPIs and analyse data to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and equipment.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams to align production engineering activities with business objectives.
- Provide technical support and training to production staff.
- Communicate engineering changes and process updates effectively to relevant stakeholders.
Site Infrastructure
- Maintain heating, ventilation, plumbing, and waste systems, coordinating with external contractors where necessary.
About You
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a site services or maintenance engineering role, ideally within a manufacturing, industrial, or facilities environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills. Experience with electric motors, inverter drives, pumps and liquid mixing/liquid management or similar
- Problem-Solver: You are resourceful and quick to troubleshoot, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to solving on-site issues.
- Undertake any training required to assist in the delivery of daily responsibilities, in line with changing business needs and any legal or legislative requirements.
