Our client, a high tech manufacturing business based a few miles north of Cambridge, is building a new Production Engineering function and is seeking an experienced manager to lead it. This is a hands on role driving the transfer of advanced products from RandD into efficient, scalable and high quality production.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow a multidisciplinary production engineering team.
- Own New Product Introduction (NPI) and ensure products are ready for assembly, test, calibration and scale-up.
- Develop production test strategies, tooling, automation and configuration control.
- Drive improvements in yield, cost, throughput and manufacturing robustness.
- Provide senior technical support for complex production issues.
- Define standards for documentation, work instructions and change control.
- Collaborate closely with RandD, Operations, Quality and suppliers.
Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline.
- Strong background in production/manufacturing engineering or NPI.
- Experience leading multi discipline engineering teams.
- Knowledge of electronics manufacture, mechanical processes and test automation.
- Comfortable working from prototype through to volume manufacturing.
- Familiar with DFM/DFA/DFT and ISO9001 environments.
- Hands on leader, pragmatic, detail focused and calm under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience with complex electromechanical products.
- CAD or hardware design familiarity.
- ERP/BOM systems knowledge.
- Experience with automated test systems or contract manufacturers.
